the misadventures of two 26 year olds as they stop shopping

in 3 days our 365 day challenge begins.  what's the challenge you ask?

NO SHOPPING for clothing, accessories, shoes, purses or wallets....for one whole year!

as silly as it sounds, we are committed to this for reals.  for many reasons:

1. give ourselves budgetary relief
2. to be one of those anti-consumer type peeps
3. to following through on a project for a whole darn year
4. to write, gosh darn it
5. seeing our own closets as a mall...especially those pieces that still have tags on it :S

a couple rules:

1. if you're standing in a weddings & must buy the dress....you can...we don't encourage theft
2. no using your boyfriend/best friend/mother/aunts/sisters ex-boyfriends/cousins (you get the point) credit card to make the purchase
3. gifts: giving....don't do it. receiving: hmmm....just tell EVERYONE you know about this project...so they can't buy you clothes, accessories, shoes, purses or wallets.
4. come up with creative ways to spice up your own wardrobe (ie. buy a snake and wear it as a scarf)
5. speak confidently about it and recruit like-minded revolutionaries

ps....we just realized we need some mega guilt/punishment if we break the rules.  we are open to suggestions....we've come up with: if you break the rules and buy something, you have to triple the price of the item and put it into the other's RSP....

  2. ps have also added you to my blog list for readers to click on. You might want to go to www.statcounter.com and get yourself a counter. It shows you how many people visit, from where and the search engine words used to get to you - addictive! (Am blog geek I know xx)

  3. Can you accept hand-me-downs? Are you allowed to borrow?

  4. Someone I know tried to live a whole year without using anything that came in plastic packaging - you know how everything is ridiculously wrapped and individually wrapped inside the wrapping... wasting SO much plastic for consumer convenience! It was really, really hard but she loved doing it! She made it a year and now still keeps up most of her good habits!
Good luck Carly! You've got the willpower!
